Insights from the Book of Galatians
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Galatians.
Why? Error was slipping into the church and he intervened to help that church. His writings, inspired by God, are instructions to all of us.
It’s often said that the Catholic Church is
the “original church” because it is over 2,000 years old.
But Paul writes in Galatians 1:6, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ…” These four churches that Paul founded, Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe in Galatia were less than five years old. They were turning away from Grace and accepting a false gospel! If this happened in such a short time, then time is not an argument for truth.
The Catholic church has forever damned (anathema) people who disagrees with Catholic doctrine. (Second Vatican II reconfirms the anathema’s of the Council of Trent + Pope John Paul II signed into cannon on 06/16/00 one must be Catholic to be Saved.)
…In Galatians 1:8-9 Paul writes that anyone teaching this false gospel will be forever damned (anathema).
The Catholic church says that Peter is the head of the Christian Church.
…Paul clarified that no Apostle was greater than another. In 2:6 he writes, “God shows personal favoritism to no man”
The Catholic church teaches that works (the sacraments) are necessary for Salvation.
…In verses 2:7, 2:11 & 2:13 Paul explained that the Apostle Peter along with the Jews that he converted to Christianity would not eat with the Christian Gentiles (non-Jews) because the were not fulfilling the Jewish law of circumcism.
In 2:14 Paul wrote, “But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?” and in verse 16, “knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ… …for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified”
In 5:4 Paul emphasizes, “You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.” He continued to emphasized that Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Allow the Word to God to guide you.
The Christian church must follow the Bible.
