Did Jesus Lie?

Did Jesus Lie?

Did Jesus Lie?

Luke 23:43 :

"Today you will be with me in Paradise."
"Today you will be with me in Paradise."
"Today you will be with me in Paradise."

Remember the two criminals that died with Jesus at the cross?

God allowed this to show the simplicity of the Gospel and the how His Grace works.

One criminal scoffed Jesus. "But the other criminal protested, 'Don't you fear God even when you are dying?' 'We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn't done anything wrong.' Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.' And Jesus replied, 'I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.' Luke 23:40-43 New Living Translation.

"Today you will be with me in Paradise."

It sums up Salvation -

Sinful Nature The criminal knew he was a sinner - "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23) - "The wages of sin is death" (Rom. 6:23) - spiritual death.
Repentance He admitted that he deserved to die and showed a repentant attitude.  John the Baptist preached repentance
Jesus Is God He understood that Jesus is God and could save him.
He Asked "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved, for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved." (Rom. 10:9-10, 13).
Not Earned "And if (salvation is) by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace." Rom 11:6 NIV  He had no time to earn it - he was hanging on a cross dying - no Baptism, no Sacraments, etc.
Assurance Jesus said, "I assure you.. today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:40-43 NLT.  Assurance of Salvation, a sin to the Catholic Church, was given.  Jesus didn't lie.  "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand." John 10:28

"Today you will be with me in Paradise."

Jesus didn't respond with, "You'll have to pay for your sins in Purgatory" or "Since you don't have time to be Baptized, perform Sacraments, go to church, etc., I can't let you into heaven." Jesus responded, "This day you'll be with me in Paradise." His faith alone in Jesus Christ resulted in eternal Salvation.

"Today you will be with me in Paradise."

No.  Jesus didn't lie but man has added and twisted the grace of the Gospel.
That you must do this or that to earn it.

God has told us that Salvation cannot be earned - it is a free gift.

Jesus told the truth.
